It’s almost the same as if you would have another computer - the download will resume then you will log back in. With separate user account you can safely log out and use your main account. But I bet you want to use your computer in the meantime. You simply share the features and space available in iCloud+ with your family members, so you only have one plan to manage. Any photo shared on the app will automatically be downloaded to your photo roll as well as to Photo Stream on iCloud. Even if you have messaging apps like WhatsApp that you believe are private, they are not. That way your photos, documents, and other information stay private, even though youre sharing access to the service. Case after case has occurred where a spouse is able to catch their partner in an affair because of iCloud and the family sharing feature.
If you have a lot of photos it could take a week or even more to get them all donloaded from the cloud if using Export function in Photos app, as other have suggested here. When you share an iCloud+ subscription, everyone in the family group uses their own account. With both those solutions you don’t have to wait then all photos are downloaded in one session. Then setting up iCloud app, just choose to save iCloud photos to the SSD. If on Windows do the same: create new Windows user and log under it. It will take time, but it will eventually download all your photos.

Now log in to mac with the new user account and then setting up Photos app choose to save your Photo library to SSD, and choose save them in full resolution. If Im getting other people photos then someone else may be getting mine. I thought this was wired and kinda freaky. The other day I open my photo app and noticed another person photos in my iCloud photo stream.
